Description

JESUS’ PALM SUNDAY RIDE
Matthew 21:1-11
The first few verses of Matthew 21 record the events of the first Palm Sunday, namely, the riding of Christ into Jerusalem to a glorious welcome.  Today as I preach, I want JESUS to shine! I want Heaven to come down. I want something brought down from Haven not worked up by mere man. Note: The Significance of the Palm Branches, a note the most of all the significance of Jesus’ Triumphal ride and Entry into Jerusalem as the Savour King. John 1:11

I. IT WAS A RIDE THAT WAS PROVIDED Matthew 21:1-11
A. The Sending for the Provision. Matthew 21:1, 2
B. The Solicitation about the Provision. Matthew 21:3
C. The Scriptures and the Provision. Matthew 21:4
Zechariah 9:9
D. The Supernatural in the Provision. Matthew 21:7, Mark 11:2

II. IT WAS A RIDE THAT WAS PRAISED Matthew 21:6-10
A. The Practice for the Praise. Matthew 21:6, 7
B. The Proclaiming of the Praise. Matthew 21:9
First, the Hosannas in the Proclaiming. “Hosanna” Originally meant “save now we pray.”
Second, the Hypocrisy in the Proclaiming. A few days later the same crowd was hollering “crucify Him.”
C. The Perturbation from the Praise. Matthew 21:10 “The city was moved” The meaning of the word “moved” indicates that the city was agitated, upset, perturbed by all the praise of Christ.

III. IT WAS A RIDE THAT ENDED IN PERPLEXITY FOR SOME. Matthew 21:10-11
All the excitement about Christ resulted in folk inquiring about Who was being praised.
A. The Ignorance for the Perplexity. “Who is this?”
(Matthew 21:10).
First, The Person in the Ignorance. “Who is this?”
Second, The Place of the Ignorance. “All the city saying, who is this?”
B. The Incompleteness for the Perplexity. Matthew 21:11
“This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee” This was not a good answer. The right answer was that Jesus was the promised Messiah. But all the praise about Jesus being the “son of David” (Matthew 21:9) was left out in this answer. It is true He was from Nazareth; but it is also true that in giving His identity, they needed to give His Messianic identity, too. Oftentimes it is not what one says but what one does not say that condemns a person. So, it is here. To leave out “son of David” was to leave out important truth. John The Baptist got it right: John 1:29. The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Conclusion: Romans 5:8-9 Jesus gets better and better: From His Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem as King to the Cross and Resurrection as Savior! The cross is rough, and it is deadly; but it is effective.
It does not keep its victim hanging there forever. There comes a moment when its work is finished After that comes resurrection, glory and power. The pain is forgotten for joy that the veil is taken away, and we have entered in the actual experience the Presence of the living God. And one day there will be Heavens Palm SONDAY. It will be in Heaven when all the Saints in Glory will with Palms in their hands Praise God in reality. Revelation 7:9-10
