SAFETY ON OUR STORM-TOSSED SEA

Matthew 8:23-27, Mark 4:35-41, Luke 8:22-25

Introduction: We all have Storms that come up in of lives. But, has it Occurred to You, that nothing has Ever Occurred to God! And You know what? God The Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit Has Never Met in An Emergency Session! In Our Text as Jesus and His men sailed across the Sea of Galilee that stormy night, they found themselves engulfed in a terrible storm. These verses have a Powerful and Practical Spiritual Lesson for us Today.

I. IT WAS A STORM OF GREAT DANGERS

Matthew 8:24, Mark 4:37, Luke 8:23

A. It Was a Storm That Came Up Suddenly Matthew 8:24

B. It was A Storm of Great Severity Matthew 8:24, Mark 4:37, Luke 8:23

C. It Was a Storm of Great Mystery Where did this storm come from? It may have been natural, God might have sent it, the storm could have been satanic in origin. The Bible does not tell us the source of this storm. Sometimes the storms are our own fault. Example: Jonah, David

II. IT WAS A STORM OF GREAT DOUBTS

Matthew 8:25, Mark 4:38, Luke 8:24

A. The Disciples Doubted Jesus’ Concern for Them.

Matthew 8:25, Mark 4:38, Luke 8:24, Hebrews 4:15-16

B. The Disciples Doubted Jesus’ Commitment to Them.

Matthew 8:25 “we perish.”, Hebrews 13:5

C. The Disciples Doubted Jesus’ Comments to Them. Matthew 8:23, Mark 4:35, Luke 8:22-25, Luke 8:22-25, Romans 8:28, Genesis 50:20, II Corinthians 4:15-17, Romans 8:18, Matthew 6:25-34, Luke 12:32

III. IT WAS A STORM OF GREAT DISCOVERIES

Matthew 8:26-27, Mark 4:39-41, Luke 8:24-25

A. The Disciples Discovered the Lord’s Power! Matthew 8:26-27,

Matthew 28:18, Genesis 18:14, Ephesians 3:20, II Corinthians 12:9

B. The Disciples Discovered the Lord’s Promises!

Matthew 8:28, Mark 5:1, Romans 4:21, Hebrews 6:18

C. The Disciples Discovered the Lord’s Presence!

Mark 4:36, The Lord is in your vessel, you have an advantage.

The Bible says in Mark 4:36 that there “were also with him other little ships.” There were many boats on that sea that night, but only one contained the Lord of glory. That boat was the place to be.

D. The Disciples Discovered the Lord’s Purposes!

If they could have said, “You know, if Jesus can heal a leper, cure Peter’s mother-in-law, cast out devils, heal that guy with the palsy and forgive his sins, then I am sure that He can take care of this storm too.” But they seemed unable to process that information and apply it to their own lives. So, he sent them into this storm to teach them to trust Him. What about us? When they arrived in Gadara, they saw that demon possessed man. I wonder if they doubted Him after the storm. When they saw Jairus come for help for his daughter, and even when she died, I wonder if they said, “I believe He can take care of this”. I think the storm increased their faith! That may have been the purpose all along. If it wasn’t the purpose, the Lord surely used it in that fashion. He does the same for us! When you come to Matthew 14:22-33 and Mark 6:48-51, there you find these same men in another storm. Again, they are afraid.

E. The Disciples Discovered the Lord’s Peace!  Matthew 8:26, Mark 4:39

While they are fretting and fearing, what is the Lord doing? He is sleeping! Why? He knows that He is in the center of His Father’s will. He knows that He will die on a cross and not in a shipwreck. He can sleep during the storm because He trusts His Father to take care of Him. Psalm 121:4,

Psalm 127:1-2F. The Disciples Discovered the Lord’s Person! Matthew 8:27 But the men marveled, saying, what manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him! Mark 4:39

Conclusion: I don’t know about your storm, but I know Who can still it. If it is a storm of suffering; He can ease your pain. If it is a storm of sorrow; He can comfort your soul. If it is a storm of sin; He can deliver you and set you free. Do you need to hear Jesus say “Peace, be still” to your storm? If you do, bring it to Him and watch Him work.

FROM MANIAC TO MISSIONARY!

Matthew 8:28-34, Mark 5:1-20, Luke 8:26-39

Introduction: This wonderful miracle of Jesus casting out a legion of demons out of a man is written in the books of Matthew, Mark and Luke. We will be looking at all three of these books to get a more complete picture for this sermon. On the way to Gadara, Jesus has demonstrated His power over nature by calming the sea. Now, he will demonstrate His power over sin and Satan by claiming a sinner. Allow me to share with you the story of a man who went From Maniac to Missionary!
