THE DAY TWO BLIND BEGGARS GOT 20/20 VISION AND MORE
THE DAY TWO BLIND BEGGARS GOT 20/20 VISION AND MORE Matthew 20:29-34
Introduction: As we observe this encounter between Jesus and a blind man named Bartimaeus and his blind cohort, I want you to look into you own heart. Let God speak to you and show you that what He did for this blind man, He can do for everyone who will call on Him by faith. I want you to see These Two Men Their Condition; And Their Cry; and Their and His Cure.
I NOTICE THEIR CONDITION Matthew 20:30, Mark 10:46
A. They Were Blind
B. They Were Beggars II Corinthians 4:4, Ephesians 4:18, Romans 3:11, Matthew 7:13-14, II Thessalonians 1:8-9, John 3:18,36 These two Blind Men was in a sad condition, but the lost sinner is far worse off than he was. Ephesians 2:1-3
II. NOTICE THEIR CRY Matthew 20:30-31, Mark 10:47-48
A. It Was a Passionate Cry Matthew 20:30-31 “cried out, saying, have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.”, “but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.” Luke 18:36 tells us that “he asked what it meant”, someone told him that it was Jesus and Bartimaeus and his cohort began to cry out. You do know that Jesus healed more blindness than He did any other kind of physical ailment.
John 1:9, Romans 1:10
B. It Was a Particular Cry Matthew 20:30 “Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David. Matthew 20:31 “Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.” They may have been blind, but they saw some things about Jesus that others with 20/20 vision did not see. They had come to see that Jesus was the Messiah. That is why they called Him the “son of David”. Somehow, they had taken the things they had heard about Jesus, and it all came together in their mind. They understood the truth that most people in that day missed. They saw the truth that Jesus was the Messiah! Since they believed that, they believed that Jesus could heal their blindness. Why? One of the signs of the Messiah would be that He would open the eyes of the blind: Isaiah 35:4-5, Matthew 11:5-6, Romans 10:9, II Corinthians 2:14,
I Corinthians 1:18, John 6:44, Ephesians 2:1
C. It Was a Personal Cry They Together and Yet Individually Cry Out for Mercy! Matthew 20:30 “Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.
Matthew 20:31 “Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David.”
The Gospel of Mark was Speaking about just Bartimaeus: Mark 10:47 “have mercy on me.” Mark 10:48 They are seeking “mercy”. The word means “to bring help to the wretched.” Ephesians 2:4-5, Titus 3:5
D. It Was a Persistent Cry They were calling out to Jesus, and they were raising a ruckus. He is causing an uproar. The people try to silence him. Isaiah 55:6
III. NOTICE THEIR CURE Matthew 20:32-34
A. Notice Our Lord’s Personal Cure John 6:37, Luke 13:3
B. Notice Our Lord’s Powerful Cure When these two blind men came to Jesus, Jesus asked them: Matthew 20:32 “What will ye that I shall do unto you?” Matthew 20:33 They say unto Him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened. Mark 10:51-52, John 3:16, Romans 10:13
C. Notice Our Lord’s Permanent Matthew 20:34, Mark 10:52 Here is the Cure: Bartimaeus never did go blind again. How do I know that? It says so right there in Mark 10:52. The word “whole” is in the “perfect tense”. That means that Bartimaeus was made “whole” and he stayed in a “whole” condition. The word “received” is in a tense that refers to “a onetime action that provides lasting results.” “Everlasting life”, John 3:16, John 6:47,
John 10:28, I Peter 1:5
D. Notice Our Lord’s Profound Cure Matthew 20:34 “and they followed Him.” Mark 10:52 “And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus in the way.” He is a new creature and everyone who sees him knows that he is different. That is the power of our Savior: II Corinthians 5:17,
Ephesians 2:10, Psalm 51:10, Galatians 6:15, I John 5:12
Conclusion: That was The Day Two Blind Beggars Got 20/20 Vision. We all are or was once blind beggars in like figure. We get 20/20 spiritual vision and become a new creation when we put our faith in trust in Jesus Christ! Call on Jesus today and trust Him to save your soul. Trust Him to wash away your sins. Trust Him to give you eternal life and to carry you to Heaven someday. Trust Him to change your life. Is He passing by your heart today? Is He calling you to come to Him? He has been, hasn’t He? Today is your day, friend! Today is the day when Jesus is near. Today is the day of your salvation. Come to Him and come now! John Newton: Amazing grace How sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me, I once was lost, but now I'm found, was blind, but now I see.
