Description

The Thankful One

is from the same root word as “grace” which signifies the free and boundless mercy of God. Thanksgiving is from the same root word as “think,” so that to think is to thank. If you are one who thinks than you can’t help but to have the attitude of gratitude. A grateful mind is a great mind.

Text: Luke 17:11-19

Introduction: Ephesians 5:20, I Thessalonians 5:18, Hebrews 13:15

As children of God, we should always be thankful:

# 1.) For What He Has Given Us in The Past II Corinthians 9:15

# 2.) For What He Is Giving Us in The Present II Corinthians 2:14

# 3.) For What He Will Surely Give Us in The Future

I Corinthians 15:57

Notice the attributes of this thankful leper:

THIS LEPER WAS A HUMBLE MAN.

Luke 17:16, Luke 17:13 The thankful and the prideful don’t mix.

II. THIS LEPER WAS A PRAISEFUL MAN.

Luke 17:16, “giving Him thanks”, Colossians 3:15, Psalm 105:1

III. THIS LEPER WAS A GIVING MAN.

Luke 17:16, “giving Him Thanks”, Colossians 3:17, I Corinthians 8:5

THIS LEPER WAS A PRAYERFUL MAN.

Luke 17:16, Ephesians 6:18

V. THIS LEPER WAS A WHOLE MAN.

Luke 17:17-19

Only Jesus Christ the Lord can make you whole! Why don’t you let Him? Will you be the thankful one? Real Contentment Can Only Be Real Lasting in Christ! Contentment is not getting everything you desire or want, but it is wanting & being thankful for what you already have. Discontentment will make a rich man poor, & contentment will make a poor man rich. Luke 17:17 And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? Jesus is saying that thankfulness is seeable!

HERE IS A THANKSGIVING TEST? If a recording angel has been following you around for the last month recording every word you have spoken, every thought you have thought, and interpreted every bodily response to every situation you have encountered, would such a record convince a jury that you truly a person who lives a life filled with thanksgiving? Or would you be convicted of being an ungrateful person? An even harder question is: What is my first response when faced with difficulty? Am I thankful or unthankful? May God help us to get to the place where we quickly go vertical and thank God for what we do have instead of what we don't. How that would help us to see that God is still in charge and will take care of us.

Be The Thankful One!

GOD’S PRAYING PEOPLE!

Text: I John 5:13-15

Introduction: Christ gives some great instruction and promises regarding prayer which should guide our praying. Prayer - The World’s Greatest Wireless Connection!

P. R. A. Y. Praise, Repent, Ask, Yield Romans 12:12

I. THE PRACTICALITY OF PRAYER

(John 14:13, 14) “Whatsoever … anything”

Prayer is practical, for it applies to every part of our lives. A lot of kneeling will keep you in good standing. A Busy Life Makes Prayer Harder but Prayer Makes a Busy Life Easier!

II. THE PROMINENCE OF PRAYER

(John 14:13, 14) “Whatsoever … anything”

Know what Jesus said about Prayer: Matthew 6:6

Let’s break this verse down, and notice:

1. The Period of Prayer - “When thou prayest”

2. The Place of Prayer - “Enter into thy closet.”

3. The Privacy of Prayer - “Shut thy door”, “in secret”

4. The Person of Prayer - “Pray to thy Father,”

5. The Promise of Prayer - “thy Father...shall reward thee openly.”

III. THE PROMISE FOR PRAYER

(John 14:13, 14) “That will I do … I will do it”, Matthew 6:10 Prayer only has one purpose and one purpose only - that is God’s will be done.

IV. THE PERIMETER OF PRAYER

(John 14:13, 14) “In my name” Prayer is Putting Oneself in the Hands of God! God should be our First thought, not our Last resort!

Prayer is asking God to align your will with His Will, rather than asking Him to be aligned with yours. Jesus said: Matthew 7:7, Matthew 21:22, John 15:7

We pray to the Father through the Son and in the Spirit.

V. THE PRAISE FROM PRAYER

(John 14:13) “That the Father may be glorified in the Son”, Psalm 34:1, James 5:14
